BE-4089. This Sumatran species was originally known only from the plateaus around Lake Toba but in recent years it has been found at several other locations. It has a wide altitudinal distribution, typically between around 600m up to 1,800m ASL, but has been observed up to 2,700m. The wide range of temperatures across such a range may contribute towards making N. tobaica a particularly forgiving plant to grow and so it’s recommended for beginners. We class it as an ‘intermediate’ grower but it’s certainly happy with highland conditions.
